Things You Might Want to Know

We want you to feel your best when you come into our space. Here are some things you might want to know. If you have any questions, let us know! michal@camasyoga.com

WHAT TO WEAR Keep it simple & wear anything you are comfortable moving and sweating in. Moisture wicking workout clothing is a great choice. Please observe personal hygiene and avoid fragrances of any kind.

WHAT TO BRING The essentials: a yoga mat and water bottle. There are all kinds of other gear you may want to invest in as you go along, but nothing else is necessary. We have items to borrow, rent and purchase in-studio.

WHAT KIND OF MAT DO YOU RECOMMEND? If you don’t already own a mat, plan to borrow or rent one before you purchase one. If you enjoy practicing in our heated space, you’ll want to invest in a premium mat meant for a sweaty movement practice. Not all mats are created equal and everyone has a different personal preference. We would love to show you what we have to offer and why!

HOW DO I FIND THE STUDIO? Finding Camas Yoga can be a bit tricky because our space is in the back of the building. We are right next to Liberty Theater. The door of our building says “Camas Yoga & Co,” but the storefront is Golden Ladder Interiors. So…come directly into Golden Ladder and walk down the hallway. Leave your shoes in the space provided and you’ll find us in the lobby space in the back.

ARRIVE A BIT EARLY Let us show you around and get acquainted with you. It's  common that your teacher is also the person checking you in. The doors will be locked once class has begun.

WHAT IF I’M RUNNING LATE? We get it - life happens… traffic, parking!!, meeting ran late, kids spilled juice on your yoga clothes…heck, life loves to throw curve balls. If you are signed up for a class and are running late, we will keep the front door open for about 5 minutes to give you time to arrive. Otherwise, the doors will lock as soon as all signed-up students have arrived.

ENTERING THE STUDIO Everyone has a different preference for when they enter the heated studio space. Some enjoy going in early and absorbing the heat of the room in preparation for class. Others prefer to enter the room just a few minutes before the class begins. Experiment and see which works best for you.

CONVERSATIONS The teachers love chatting with you and getting to know you. Feel free to hang out before and after class. We also encourage conversations in the heated room before class. Please be mindful to keep conversations respectful and avoid being divisive, loud, triggering, or aggressive. Conversations after class can be held outside the studio space. Once the teacher walks in the room, quickly refocus your attention to your practice and try to not be distracting.

BE AWARE OF YOUR SPACE When setting up your mat in the room, there are a few things to consider.

  • First, it is really distracting if you drop your mat down in a way that it makes noise. So, please quietly set up your mat.

  • It’s common courtesy to stagger mats so that the person behind you has a clear view of the mirror and aren’t stuck on the mirror seam.

  • Unless you’re practicing with your bestie or your sweetie, give your neighbor some breathing room.

  • As the room begins to fill up, you’ll notice students scanning the room for a comfortable spot to roll out their mat…be neighborly by making room for them.

  • Do your best to avoid stepping on other students' mats as you make your way through the room.

WILL IT BE TOO HARD? Our classes are not about competition or having a shape that looks exactly the same for everyone. The practice of yoga helps you become more aware of yourself. Our teachers will do their best to offer variations and options so that all students can practice to their best ability.  Don’t compare yourself to anyone else in the room. Make sure you take breaks. Do what works for you and leave the rest.

UNPLUG & DISCONNECT Yoga is all about being mindful, which is hard to do when you are checking your smart device. For the sake of yourself and the students around you, turn off your device or place it in do not disturb before entering the yoga room.

TAKING BREAKS During any class, feel free to rest. Whether you are a new yoga student or you’ve been practicing for a long time, resting is a sign of strength and respect for your body.

FREE-STYLING We think it’s a great idea to take care of your body as you move through any class. That means, it’s usually appropriate to choose a more modified or advanced shape than the one that is being cued. However, doing a different shape or your own set of postures in the middle of a guided class is distracting. Thank you for respecting the teacher and the students around you.

PLEASE DON’T TOUCH THE MIRRORS We don’t want the mirrors to shatter, so please don’t use them during your practice.

IS IT OKAY TO LEAVE THE ROOM? Your first goal is to stay in the room for the entire class. If you do need to leave, we totally understand, just give the teacher a thumbs-up before leaving so we know you’re okay.

HOW ABOUT LEAVING EARLY? Give the teacher a head’s up (we understand!) and leave before svasana.

AFTER CLASS VIBES It is traditional to maintain an uninterrupted and quiet space in the heated room after the class has concluded. Try to pick up your mat as quietly as possible and make your way out of the room with as little distraction as possible. This helps students maintain their practice of stillness and focus for just a few minutes of their day.
